The Intellectual Property Forum was launched in July 2006 and is supported by Advantage West Midlands. The Forum has 2 main functions:
- To provide a base where IP professionals can network
- To raise the awareness of Intellectual Property amongst companies and show the value it can add to their business
What is Intellectual Property?
- Intellectual property covers 4 main elements:
- Copyright – protects literature, music, broadcasts, art and artwork.
- Design Rights – protects the outward appearance of a product, including its lines, colours, contours, shape, texture and materials.
- Trademarks – protects words, slogans and pictures.
- Patents – covers all new inventions.

What is the benefit to your company?The appropriate use of Intellectual Property will help to sustain and develop any business. In order to foster a dynamic Forum which links West Midlands’ business to Professional IP Services, Fillip offers a free IP Diagnostic for Business which may lead to:
- An opportunity for up to 11 companies to have access up to a maximum of £4500 towards the cost of an IP audit through member IP Firms
- An opportunity for up to 5 companies to receive up to 80% (max £20K) towards the cost of commercialisation.
Throughout 2007, the West Midlands Intellectual Property Forum will be providing training events targeted at companies for those that wish to know more about intellectual property & the impact it can have in adding value to a business.
