CUECoventry University Enterprises Ltd

Coventry University Enterprises Ltd (CUE Ltd), a subsidiary of Coventry University Higher Education Corporation, is the organisation through which the University runs much of its commercial, income-generating and business-partnership work. Operating in a regional, national, European and international context, CUE supports the corporate aims and seeks to maximise the commercial potential of the University's skills, expertise and resources.

CUE focuses on innovation, design, high performance automotive engineering, health, environment and ICT as areas of expertise. Through this activity it has to date supported thousands of Small-to-Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) through specific projects and support programmes. Over 200 SMEs have been established with the support of CUE and many more have benefited from one-to-one involvement. In addition the company's project activity has been able to demonstrate hundreds of new jobs established and thousands of existing jobs safeguarded.

The Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry (DG Ent) works to ensure that EU policies contribute to the competitiveness of European enterprises and facilitate job creation and economic growth. It plays a major role in implementing the Lisbon strategy for growth and jobs.

DG Ent pays particular attention to the needs of manufacturing industry and small and medium-sized enterprises: they manage programmes to encourage entrepreneurship and innovation and ensure that Community legislation takes proper account of their concerns.

DG Ent are responsible for the body of Community legislation governing the internal market for goods: they work to ensure that legislation is clear and effective, and imposes the minimum burden when it is applied. DG Ent also ensure that legislation is applied effectively, efficiently and consistently across the EU.
